How I Start ANY Art Project

Hey there Reader!

How do you begin the process for making art? What are your steps? Do you get scared? Frustrated? Overwhelmed? This week, I share my process for starting among other creative inspirations:

  • Puritan Children's Picture Book. This week, I disclosed more about what my illustrated children's book will be: A picture book of a later-to-be-named puritan! More details to come.
  • How I start any art project. Yellow Ochre member, Rebecca, asked a great question about how to get started with creating. Here is my attempt to answer her question. In this video, I give an overview how I start ANY artwork.
  • What inspired me this week. Check out what's been inspiring me this week as I worked on my picture book. I've jumped back to classic Disney ideas, gesture, and other fundamentals of drawing.
  • Evangelical Missions Quarterly: The Arts & Missions. If you have any interest in arts and missions, check out EMQ's latest journal on arts and missions. This edition is filled with leading global voices in this field.
  • Can art make anything better in chaos? A timely question and reflection posed by The Brehm Center located right near the heart of Palisades fires.
  • Researching global arts. While many of us might not find interest in personally expressing art, we do love and enjoy researching it! That's exactly what Ashley Suszczynski did studying the symbolism of Europe's ancient masking rituals. I did something a little similar. In 2023, I wrote my MA Thesis on Brownsville's murals. These are testimonies of multiple ways our interests can be useful in God's kingdom.
  • How John Mayer writes songs. John Mayer has some tasty insights into his writing process. He calls this a "stupid bravery." If you're wanting a continual feed of these kinds of song-writer nuggets, give this instagram page a follow.
  • For my metal heads out there. You can now get a degree in heavy metal music. And according to Metal Injection, metal doesn't exist without these ten songs.
