Should Missionaries Begin With Art?

Hey there Reader!

I'm a firm believer in the role of the arts in missions. Here are some convincing reads this week:

  • Is Your Art More Work or Labor? Has anyone read Lewis Hyde? The Marginalian shares a snippet overview of Hyde's concept of work vs. labor. This is potent for artists, especially because labor is more of a gift than a tedious task one completes for a paycheck.
  • The Secret Architecture For Great Writing. If writing is your thing, David Perell has this fascinating interview with Michael Dean regarding patterns in writing.
  • Should Missionaries Begin With Arts? Some bible translators think so! Ethnodoxologist and missionary, Matt Menger and a local ethnoarts colleague, shares some thoughts in this great conversation.
  • Reaching the Unreached Through Storytelling. Scriptures In Use is a go-to resource for considering this topic. While useful for missionaries in oral-learning contexts, many even in literate demographics will find this helpful.
  • Two Great Arts and Missions Workshops This Summer. If you want to enrich your artistry with missional practices, consider these two amazing workshops this summer. The Arts for a Better Future and Intro to Ethnodoxology workshops won't disappoint you!
