Got Any Arts Frankincense?

Hey guys!

Here are three things to spark your inner missional flame:

Fear Not Those Who Misunderstand You

I’ve been poked fun at before, even in the Christian spaces, for taking the arts seriously.

Though it was tongue and cheek, I had a ministry leader often refer to me as “doodles.”

I’m not sure they realized how offensive they were by calling me this.

If you called the highly gifted IT guy, “C3PO,” I’m not sure they’d love it. Or if we called a hero-theologian, “Footnote,” maybe he’d feel honored.

Take heart though. Jesus was also used to being misunderstood.

Many times his own followers did not understand what he was doing or even what he meant by his messages.

Still, Jesus constantly used a blend of metaphor, parables, and directness to convey his word to others.

Being understandable does not always mean we sacrifice beauty, nuance, allusivity, and bend the knee to the golden calf of literal-ness.

Got Any Arts Frankincense?

"On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh." (Matthew 2:11).

Do you possess and golden art ideas you want to give Jesus? Got some Frankincense you’ve been wanting to share with others? Any allusive myrrh you’d like to pass on? Rummage through those art supplies you’ve got there and make your trek to Bethlehem. Bring them to King Jesus.
