Let's Be Priscilla & Aquila Artists

“After Priscilla and Aquilla heard [Apollos],
They took him home and explained
the way of God to him more accurately.”

Acts 18:26

With every work we create for the church, let us be like Priscilla and Aquila. We ought not be confrontational when we point out things the church’s leaders may have missed.

We ought to, rather, open our homes, share a meal, and enjoy time together.

This is the ideal context to show Apollos something he may have missed.

Our hospitality and artistry ought to make their work better, not discouraged.

Dear Artist, The Mission Has a Usefulness Deficiency

John Mark had served as an early missionary with Paul and Barnabas. That was until he deserted them in Pamphylia (Acts 15:36-38). For whatever reason, something in Mark ceased him from continuing on.

This conflict ended up splintering Paul and Barnabas as a team. Whatever the drama was, it was that bad.

Some years later though, Paul found John Mark useful for ministry (2 Timothy 4:11).

We are never told the issue. But John Mark must have gone through some sort of transformation.

He was not found useful before, and the fruit showed.

Later he was deemed fit for service.

The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. What’s stopping you from cultivating how you might use your artistry in the tapestry of the great commission?

🎨 WHAT YOU'RE MAKING

This week's creating comes from Doug Anthony. Doug says poetry is something he's just beginning to dabble in. So if you have any feedback, feel free to share any thoughts you might have with hime (doug@walkintwoworlds.org)! Be sure to check out Doug and his wife Mary Lu's ministry, Walk In Two Worlds. They have tons of terrific resources for mission-minded artists.

When The Fathers Are All Gone (Doug Anthony, 2026)

When the fathers all are gone
And the winds blow cold straight through
Grab the coats and batten down
Pressure’s dropping skies aren’t blue
When the fathers all are gone
No one to blame and weather’s here
See children counted, lamps turned on
Quiet words chasing fear
When the fathers all are gone
And the watchman falls asleep
Fill the gap meet the dawn
Excuses flounder talk is cheap
When the fathers all are gone
Leaving wealth or debts piled high
Calm and wise and sober plans
Guard tomorrows of all behind
When the fathers all are gone
And gathered eyes look up to you
Words and wisdom suddenly worn
Now only ancient words will do

When the fathers all are gone
Re-sounding peace or bitterness
And weight digs into your shoulders
Will you curse or will you bless?

What did you make this last week? (email me and I'll share it with in my next newsletter)

History is now being written by the artists while the factory workers struggle. The future belongs to chefs, not to cooks or bottle washers. It's easy to buy a cookbook (filled with instructions to follow) but really hard to find a chef book.
